There are makers and then there are people who make with their whole life. Erin at Folk Fibers is the second kind. We spent a day in Austin documenting her process on analog film and what we walked away with was something that felt less like a branding shoot and more like a portrait of a woman and her craft.
Folk Fibers is slow by design. Indigo baths, natural dyes pulled from plants and earth, fabric that moves through her hands for weeks before it becomes something finished. Hand stitching that takes the kind of patience most people have lost. We wanted the film to hold all of that. The grain of 16mm does something to texture that digital simply cannot. You can feel the fabric. You can feel the indigo. You can feel the time.
We photographed her process from start to finish. The dye baths, the drying, the stitching. The quiet concentration of someone who knows exactly what they are doing and has chosen to do it slowly on purpose. That intentionality is what her brand is built on and it is exactly what analog film is built to capture.
