Apple and Charlie’s 16mm wedding film in Paris France was never going to be just one day. It was two cities, two ceremonies, two families from opposite sides of the world meeting in the middle of the most romantic country on earth and deciding that this was worth crossing an ocean for. It was. Every single frame of it was.
It started in Paris with a civil ceremony that was exactly what Paris does best. Intimate and unhurried and quietly beautiful. The kind of moment that does not need decoration because the city itself is the decoration. On 16mm the light in Paris does something extraordinary. It lands differently there. Softer and older and full of a history you can feel but cannot quite name. We let the film do what film does and just followed the two of them through it.
Then came Avignon. The full celebration in the south of France where the florals took over every surface and the elegance of the venue met the warmth of two families who had never been in the same room before and immediately felt like they had known each other for years. French and American colliding in the best possible way over long tables and good wine and friends who had flown across the world because Apple and Charlie were worth it. That kind of love draws people toward it.
The VHS captured what the 16mm could not chase. The in between moments, the toasts, the grandmother pulling someone close, the friends who had not seen each other in years finding each other across a crowded room. Together the two formats made a wedding film that lives up to the trip.
